چکیده

The prevalence of Japanese encephalitis (JE) is not uncommon in Taiwan. It tends to occur in the summer and early autumn. The definite diagnosis of JE was according to the results of serological examination and clinical presentation. We report the magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings of two patients with serologically proved JE. The MR imaging demonstrated bilateral thalamic involvement with abnormal high signal intensities on T2weighted images (T2WI), fluid-attenuated inversion recovery images (FLAIR) and diffusion-weighted images (DWI). The lesions showed no obvious contrast enhancement. Recognition of such typical MR imaging features associated with appropriate clinical setting will aid in early correct diagnosis and render proper treatment.

Neuro-cysticercosis with Japanese encephalitis: magnetic resonance imaging with diffusion and spectroscopy.

Neuro-cysticercosis (NCC) and Japanese encephalitis (JE) are common in tropical countries. Two cases of NCC with coexistent JE are presented, which share same socio-demographic and ecologic factors and have the same intermediate host (pig). Patients were on treatment for NCC and presented in comatose state. Sudden clinical deterioration of a patient with NCC should warrant a search for coexiste...

Herpetic encephalitis based on clinical judgment in pregnancy: case report

Background: Herpes simplex virus (HSV) encephalitis is the most common cause of sporadic encephalitis, with significant morbidity and mortality that are effectively reduced by antiviral treatment. Herpes simplex infection in pregnant women rarely results in encephalitis. The most common symptoms of a pregnant woman with herpes simplex infection are colds and skin vesicles. Herpetic encephalitis...

A possible case of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis after Japanese encephalitis.

PURPOSE Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a monophasic demyelination disease of central nervous system (CNS) with presentations of impaired consciousness, neurologic deficits and diffuse white matter lesions on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Predisposing infection can be identified in around 50 to 77% of all patients with ADEM. Post-infectious autoimmune events associated with J...

A Large Solitary Hemangioblastoma of the Lateral Ventricles: A Case Report and Literature Review

Hemangioblastoma (HB) in the supratentorial region of the brain is rare and only a few cases are reported on intraventricular HB. HB of the lateral ventricles is even rarer. We present a case of a 30-year-old man with generalized tonic clonic seizures. The brain computed tomography showed a 5.5 cm heterogeneous mass extending into both lateral ventricles with partial enhancement. Based on the s...

Administration of recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF) for the intracranial hemorrhage in two dogs: a case report

Two dogs with generalized seizures were evaluated. The dogs were diagnosed with traumatic intracranial hemorrhages based on the history, neurological examinations, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain. Treatment was started with oxygen, prednisolone and anticonvulsant agents. No further seizure activity was observed after treatment in both dogs, however cushing reflex was detected ...
